Position Title:                        Snow Workshop Technician


Reporting To:                        HOD – Snow Workshop +/or General Manager



Mission:                 Motivate and enable people to have the best experience in the outdoors


Main Purpose:

  • The principal responsibility as Snow Workshop Technician is handling and overseeing all ski and snowboard repairs and tune ups as well as mounting bindings on all new skis and snowboards for both retail and rental.
  • Follow the booking system for the workshop and ensure that all staff comply with the booking system.
  • Ensure that repairs and tune ups are turned around within a 24-hour period and all repairs are completed by the “due date” as detailed when booked into the workshop.
  • You will assist in setting up the snow workshop and be proficient in all technical aspects of ski and snow goods and repairs/tune ups. You will assist with dismantling the winter workshop at the end of the season.
  • You will assist with the ongoing maintenance and care of all workshop machinery and ensure the workshop is left in a tidy and clean state when you finish your shift.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, completing tune ups, leading by example and contributing to the performance and profitability of the shop through your positive attitude, product knowledge and ‘nothing is too much trouble approach’.






Aiming to meet or exceed departmental revenue targets


·         Meeting agreed monthly targets for revenue through effective management techniques and delivery of superior customer service
·       Timely repair of all customer ski and snowboards to the highest standard.

·       Ensuring that the booking system is followed and all jobs are completed by their booked in “due date”

·       Communication to the Head of Department if a job is not going to be completed within agreed timeframes

·       Ongoing maintenance and repair of all rental skis and snowboards.

·       Ensure machinery is handled safely and competently at all times.

·       Responsible for mounting bindings on all new skis and snowboards for both retail and rental departments

·       Provide a pre-sale wax for all new retail skis and snowboards sold.

Customer Services
·         The provision of all services for Racers Edge Powered by Torpedo7 customers

·         Manage all aspects of the provision of maximising sales and providing exceptional customer service

·         Ensure any service issues are communicated to your supervisor so they can be resolved immediately

·         You will ensure workshop security procedures are followed at all times
Ensures staff and customer safety at all times
·         Any health, safety, hazards, security issues or accidents are reported through the appropriate channels

·         Is fully conversant with and follows company and department health & safety procedures, policies and directives

·         A high standard of personal and workplace hygiene is maintained

·         Actively promotes safe work practices within department

Educational/ Technical


·         Current Drivers Licence


Tertiary Qualification


Work Experience ·         > 2 years of outdoor retail and snow workshop experience (preferred), using Wintersteiger machines, preferably with international experience and national experience with other Torpedo7 stores

·         Proven track record dealing with a wide range of snow products and brands

·         You will have set up a snow workshop from scratch at least once before

·         A passion for the outdoors and first-hand understanding of gear requirements for relevant activities in various environments

·         Experience in leading teams of varied skill levels

2 to 3 years’ experience providing leadership to a technical retail/sales focused team
Interpersonal Skills ·         Uses judgement, objectivity, and discretion to accurately assess situations and take appropriate action, maintaining confidentiality where necessary

·         Consistently portrays a positive impression and achieves desired outcomes by optimising communication orally and in writing with a wide range of people

·         Prioritises tasks to meet deadlines to agreed standards whilst being flexible and adapting to changing demands

·         Autonomously identifies needs and proactively works towards an effective solution gaining cooperation from others as required

·         Remains calm, productive and focused in pressured situations achieving desired outcomes and maintaining positive relationships

·         Applies effective systems and checklists to ensure details are not overlooked

·         Works autonomously ensuring all tasks are completed on time and accurately

Technical Skills ·         Proficient with ‘Wintersteiger’ ski & board tuning machines to a level you can train others and troubleshoot

·         Self-sufficient with typing requirements, internet communications and excel

Knowledge of ‘TPOS’ point of sale system
