How does it work?

Workride operates on a "salary sacrifice" model, where employees opt to reduce their pre-tax salary to lease a bike. In addition to the tax savings, a small proportion of other contributions like student loans or KiwiSaver may also be redirected towards the ride, depending on its value. At the end of the lease term, employees have the option to take ownership of the ride.

For example, an employee with a $80,000 salary chooses a bike valued at $6380, but it’s on sale in-store at $5200. Through Workride, they sacrifice $100 pre-tax and their weekly take-home pay impact is only reduced by $49, totalling an annual net contribution of only $2572 towards the ride. Thus, making their new salary $74,800. This arrangement benefits both the employee and employer, offering tax savings and financial flexibility.

Why should I use Workride instead of buying outright?

Workride enables you to purchase a bike with salary sacrifice from your current employer. The cost of your bike will be deducted from your pre-tax salary, reducing your income and providing tax benefits.

How do I know if my company is a Workride partner?

Check in with your employer and they’ll let you know. If they're not signed up, the process is easy.

Which bike can I choose?

Whichever you like!

Are there any additional fees?

There is a 5% surcharge for any bikes that are discounted on sale,

Are there any obligations?

Workride is designed for employers to support you in commuting to work using active modes. Therefore, you must predominantly use your ride benefit for riding to and from work. Not adhering to this requirement could lead to personal tax implications.

For questions about how salary sacrifice affects you personally, please consult an independent financial advisor.

Wait... So I'm only allowed to use my bike for work?

Absolutely not! But the primary purpose of your bike is for commuting - so if you want to use it for fun during the weekend, you just also have to use it to commute to work during the week.
